This song was inspired by reading about structure forms. The  ABAABBCBBAABA form intrigued me because of its  symmetrical nature.  It is an interesting approach considering the possibilities of computer programming. Not only can you make symmetry in the form, you can also apply it on samples by reversing them or to automation of volume or other parameters. 

With some screenshots and commentary I will try to explain a bit about how I composed this song.

If you look closely you can see the symmetry in the structure. Like a mirror image, what happens on the left side happens on the right side in reverse. 

Keeping that in mind I tried to apply a rule of having every 'riser' or 'uplifter' be reversed in its mirror image. So if it is a 'riser' on the left side it should be a 'downer' on the right side, and vica versa. This creates an exciting challenge because something that works on the left side might not work in its mirror image on the right side, something that might make a good ending might not make a good opening..

Here an example of a downer and its mirror image. 


Above a downer (Audio-2, the yellow box), this time a synth using pitch and filtering to make the downward motion. 

Below it's mirror image. Being the mirror image the pitch and filtering now move upward instead of down.

For the actual melody and progressions I didn't use mirror images. I kept the progressions in the same order for every part, I only used the mirror image in the order of the parts --> ABAABBCBBAABA

The parts are mainly composed by a figured bass. Using a bass melody for part A and B, B being the inverted melody of A.

Part A is a 2 voice part with a very simple melody composed against the bass. 

Part B is also a 2 voice part with a simple melody composed against a bass. 

In the second part of B a 3rd voice is introduced and the melody enriched.. 

Through suspending the different voices of the harmony you get a nice syncopic effect. Instead of letting all the voices start on the same beat like a standard chord you can suspend certain notes creating nice suspension and resolve.

That's most of it. For the rest just lots of programming of drums, synths and transitions. Not a lot of mixing needed for this song.
